My boyfriend and I have decided to start a juice fast according to Joe Cross next Thursday.
After gaining some pounds since we started dating with which we no longer feel confident with, we have researched for a possibility to drop those (also together).
I remembered that in some far away past I was watching the Netflix documentary of Joe Cross named „Sick, fat and nearly dead“ (in Germany, it is no longer available on Netflix, but on YouTube).
A short summary of the documentary: Joe Cross is an obese man with an autoimmune disease due to which he needs to take strong meds. He is a workaholic and for his taste has spent too much time in the „fun part of town“; meaning those places that seduce you to do everything but eat healthy.
As he is suffering a lot from the meds he is required to take as well as (but less so) the overweight, he decides to go on a 60 day juice fast for which he consumes between 2 and 3.6l of juice a day, which he juices himself out of fruits (20%) and vegetables (80%).
In the end, he has lost many pounds but more importantly: Removed his medication.
More information in his movie „Sick, fat and nearly dead“ (YouTube), his book „The Reboot with Joe JUICE DIET“ or under www.rebootwithjoe.com.
Anyway, my boyfriend and I found all this very interesting and would like to test this for about two weeks. Here are some things that are supposed to happen for which we are either excited or scared:
We are excited about
- how we are coping with the carbohydrate withdrawal;
- and with not eating solid food for this time;
- that supposedly you get an „energy kick/high“ after about 3-5 days;
- feeling unusually active;
- if we are able to lose weight long-term (ow if we simply lose water and muscle mass);
- wether my migraines will get better; and
- wether our skin will improve.
We are scared about
- being tired, floppy and hungry for more than 3-5 days; and
- supposedly having bad breath a body odor.
As advantages are outweighing disadvantages, we will try it out 🙂 On Ebay Kleinanzeigen (US equivalent: Craigslist) we bought a juicer (Philips Juicer HR 1871 for 55€) and have tried a test juice lat Thursday (Carrot Apple Ginger Juice) which be both found to taste really nice. We have substituted our dinner with the juice and to our great surprise neither of us felt any hunger. If this will be like this for the upcoming two weeks, we would be happy! Tuesday we will try another juice and until Thursday we will only eat vegan with a high vegetable share.
I will keep on reporting 🙂
